Rangers are stealthy little blighters. They like nothing more than to crouch behind a mushroom and ping arrows at a target, preferably without being seen. That preference makes black dragon leather hugely attractive to a ranger. Not only does it bend nicely at the joints for the mushroom-crouching, it's highly durable and - best of all - it's black, which makes the whole subterfuge thing more likely to succeed. I've always suspected that rangers like the black as it makes them look a bit edgy, but that's unproven.
