Black Sword

The black sword is a one-handed power level 6 melee weapon. The recipe is unlocked after studying the shattered black blade vestige, which can be found in chests throughout Dowdun Reach or purchased from Postie Pete's Evil Emporium for 300 infernal fragments. It can be ascended at the mystic forge using ascension cores.

Its special effect deals 15% increased damage against mages, which includes garou druids, skeletal necromancers, zamorakian acolytes, and mages of zamorak. The latter two are also weak to slash damage, dealing an additional 25%, for a total of 44% increased damage.

This weapon has the same damage ranges when the same power level as the wooden training sword, but the toktz-xil-ak has slightly higher damage values in addition to having an additional chance to crit. The zombie axe also deals slash damage, but though it does more per hit, it uses the mace attack style which is slower. Therefore, this weapon is the ideal choice against mages, the toktz-xil-ak is best against other enemies weak to slash damage, otherwise the zombie axe is best in every other situation.

Where the mithril crossbow is the standard issue of the ranged Black Knight, the black sword is standard for footsoldiers.

'Black', you may be aware, is not a material. It is instead a descriptor for steel that has gone through a process similar to vulcanisation. There was a time when the vulcanisation was performed by the dragon Xikotal, as a gift to the isolationist knights.

With his death, the process moved towards the demonic. The resulting quality is lower, which has made the original, dragonfire 'black' metal sought after in Dowdun Reach.
