History

Creation

Kuldra was amongst the first dragons created by the dragonkin Lacrussa and Avisk. When Lacrussa was working on making a better race of dragons, Avisk would force himself into her experiments and suggesting to fuse certain dragons for a better results.[2] He would mess with some of the brood, adding rune essence into the them.[3] Despite Lacrussa's warning in trying to maintain a single headed dragons, Avisk ignored her, which led to several of these brood to die, all but one.[4][5] Kuldra was born showing no signs of madness for having multiple minds. Instead she found that it would work as one, unified in a way.[6] Lacrussa learns that the dragon was able to spread the rage across herself, weakening the effect, causing her to express other emotion and behaviours, such as curiosity, reason and even wit.[7] This would make Lacrussa want to study her further, keeping her chained. During the study, they would get her off springs and conduct several experiments on them, exterminating the failures.[8] Kuldra would witness this, and slowly plot her vengeance.

Dragon Rebellion

After the Human-Garou War, the goddess Lougrim donated her blood to the dragonkin for their assistance against the human and bandosians[9][10]. Lacrussa would use this on Kuldra. After gaining Lougrim's blood, she would plot a rebellion against the dragonkin after seeing the continued abuse, despite their assistance in the war. At first, she was hesitant, but it was Velgar who convinced her and was the first to join her cause. When the rebellion started, Lacrussa was slain, along with Brakka, from whom Kuldra stole powers for herself and shared them with Velgar, her most trusted ally,[11] granting him his elemental mastery of earth.[12] Before she could kill Rasthin, the dragonkin, activated the Harmonic Resonator in hope to destroy Kuldra, only for the Dragon Queen to survive. In a battle that fractured the continent itself,[13] Kuldra then attacked Lougrim, who was protecting the garou village. Weak and wounded, Kuldra descended on her without mercy and devouring her body and taking her title of High Queen of the Garou. Some accepted out of fear, but others rejected her rule and left to another region. Having freed her fellow dragons, she sent them out across the continent to wipe out other settlements, other than the garou and goblins.

Sometime during these events, Kuldra caught wind of Imaru's and Xikotal's mercy towards the human settlements in Fellhollow, and as a result, she decided to confront the duo herself. As Kuldra descended on the region, nobles within the region would arm themselves in steel equipment[14] to assist Xikotal and Imaru, in the hope of defending their new home and bring an end to the Dragon Queen. Despite the help and numbers, they failed to bring Kuldra down. With Kuldra's strength and power seemingly unmatched, she would pull Xikotal's heart from his chest and devour it.[15] She would then leave Imaru to grieve, as punishment for disobeying her.[16][17] However, Imaru would challenge Kuldra a second time, after being infused by a curse[18] placed by Ravanna.[19][20] However, this was not enough to even stand a chance against Kuldra, who killed her quite easily.[21] Despite Imaru's action, Kuldra had left the humans of Fellhollow alone, their fate met by the resurrected corpse of Imaru some time later.

With Ashenfall settlement destroyed, minus some of the garou and goblins, Kuldra now rules the continent with her dragons.

Sixth Age

During the 14th Year of the Sixth Age, while ruling unchallenged, an expedition had made its way to Ashenfall; her generals had attacked the expedition in her name. After the arrival of a group of adventurers, Kuldra would start gathering pieces of the Harmonic Resonator to cause another explosion that would devour the world. Before she could put her plan into motion and put an end to the world, the adventurer(s) made their way into her sanctum and, through a grueling barrage of her hatchlings trying to protect her from the intruders, was unable to survive after they destroyed her heart.

Journal

The following text is transcribed from the Journal.
Kuldra's tale is tragic really. An innocent child, raised by monsters: tormented, tortured, and forced to create legions of children who were all taken from her and then either weaponised or dissected for future study.

She found comfort in the gentle warmth of a lover's embrace, only to see him taken from her by those same cruel parents.

Only one dragonkin ever showed her warmth, but their mind was distracted by thousand different timestreams and they could never give Kuldra the love that she deserved. A lack of love is like a poison: it seeps into one's soul and infects it with malice. You find yourself unable to believe that love could be real, and from it all the other positive emotions, such as charity, kindness, or hope.

Kuldra wasn't born a monster, but she chose to become one and she was determined to be the worst monster she could be.

For centuries she has gorged herself on the anima of Ashenfall, building her own power so that she might turn the region's wellspring into a weapon that would decimate the rest of the world. Why? Because the rest of the world is happy, and she needs to see that stopped. Now, she is dead - although her legacy will scar the world for generations to come. Hate breeds only hate, and Kuldra has had plenty of children.

Trivia

  • Her appearance from the concept art, banner image and the animated trailers shows some resemblance to Tiamat, the goddess of greed and queen of evil dragons.
    • Just like Tiamat, Kuldra is the Dragon Queen, has 5 heads of different types of dragons, has divinity in her and is worshipped.
    • Her appearance in the Fellhollow cutscene intro showed her only having two legs. In RuneScape (RS3), Gorvek is another dragon known to also have only two legs.
      • However, her more recent appearance in the Umbral Sands cutscene shows she has all four legs.
  • Within the lore of RuneScape, another dragon is known to exists with the title of Queen; the Queen Black Dragon, being the first dragon ever created, and is the ancestor to all dragons.
    • Like the Queen Black Dragon, Kuldra is consider the first "perfect" creation, also had children, who were experimented on or enslaved by the dragonkin.
  • Kuldra is amongst the few known dragons with multiple heads in the RuneScape franchise, with the others being the King Black Dragon and Verak Lith.
    • There previously was another three-headed dragon in RuneScape, but it was removed along with the tutorial it appeared in.
    • Royal dragons are three headed dragons from the Player-owned farm, which are a shiny breed of dragons.
  • Just like the King Black Dragon and Verak Lith, Kuldra's central head is that of a black dragon.
  • She is the only monster in the game with over 10,000 health points.
    • This is due to how many times players have to use the anima cannons which each deal 9,999 damage per shot.

Nonsense, of course, moons are rocks floating in the emptiness and there's nothing spiritual or metaphysical about a predator seeking lunch. Still, if I can refine this power? If I can merge it with a dragon, perhaps… just perhaps… I can turn these worthless dragons into something we can use."
