Ashenfall is a fascinating experiment. It has largely developed on its own, away from the influences on the mainland. If people arrive on Ashenfall in great numbers, you can be sure that scientists will enjoy exploring how Ashenfall's independence has affected its wildlife, magic, geology and more.

Those scientists will take particular glee in vis wax. On the mainland, it's thin, derived from runes and struggling to offer much value. Some wizards have used it to augment magical auras, but that's about it. On Ashenfall, though, the vis wax is thicker. So thick, in fact, that it can be concentrated and then spun into fibres. Fibres mean cloth, and cloth means magical armour. That gives it a combat use, and nothing excites a scientist more than military capability.
