Maple is a versatile tree. It's a formidable material, making some of the finest fishing rods, staves and bows. Its sap is also a glorious thing, capable of being made into nature's nectar: maple syrup.

Its leaf is also smooth and large enough that it can be folded over numerous times, which makes it useful if you're caught short in the forest. Which, we should add, is not, and will not be, a consideration for you. It is extremely unlikely that a "being caught short" hunger-like bar will be added for you to maintain. Realism can be pushed too far.
