Area of Effect
Area of Effect (commonly abbreviated as AoE) refers to abilities, spells, attacks, or environmental hazards that affect multiple targets or an entire designated area at once, rather than targeting a single specific entity.
Overview
In RuneScape: Dragonwilds, Area of Effect mechanics apply to both player abilities and enemy/boss attacks. Understanding AoE ranges, target caps, and coverage areas is essential for managing mob groups and surviving high-level encounters like boss fights and raids.
Types of Area of Effect
Player AoE
- Spells & Magic: Certain spells deal damage to a primary target while splashing or spreading damage to nearby adjacent enemies.
- Weapon Abilities: Specific weapon special attacks or cleave abilities hit all enemies within a cone or radius in front of the player.
Enemy & Environmental AoE
- Boss Hazards: Bosses frequently use ground-targeted AoE attacks that require players to position carefully or dodge out of designated danger zones.
- Pools & Surfaces: Persistent AoE hazards, such as poison sludge or elemental ground effects, deal continuous damage to any player standing within their boundaries.
